The Tempest
March 2023
SISATA
This costume was co-designed by me and nine others for 'The Tempest' by SISATA. It would be worn by a backing character for this play set at Chesil Beach in Portland. The main focus of this play was to bring the audience's attention to pollution and waste and therefore make the costume itself as sustainable as possible and made for preexisting waste.
Throughout this making and designing process we also had to ensure the costume could fit anyone as it wasn't based off of one actor's measurements. To do this, we used eyelets and string to keep the costume adjustable.
This can be seen with the camo shirt I used. The side seams were cut and eyelets added. The belt I made to be the pocket for the rubbish to be carried in was also made without buckles or holes so that it could be tied whereever and was adjustable. Overall the idea was to create a costume which when put of the floor, looked like a pile of rubbish, which I think I defietely achieved.
