Tess d'Urbervilles

For a hypothetical univeristy project, I had to design 6 costumes for 'Tess of d'Urbervilles'. This was a play based on the book from 1891 by Thomas Hardy. The costumes, specifically the tea-gown Tess wears at the end of the play and Angel and Alec’s costumes are from that time period. Tess’s previous costumes are more from th 1870s to show how she’s poorer and is wearing hand-me-downs. Colour and the use of flower language which was a popular hobby during the Victorian period played a major part in my designs. The pretend cast were predecided by the university.
