Shakespeare Sisters

March 2022

Speculative Project

These sketches and corset were designed and created as part of a university hypothetical project. I was designing for a 'SIX' inspired concert where the four singers were women in Shakespeare's plays.

I decided to set my costume for these 'Shakespeare Sisters' in a church-turned skatepark with a focus on BMX, skating, etc to make full use of the ramps. As part of the project, one of our singers used a wheelchair so this worked well. To create a cohesive look all the singers would wear black, white, and red and would be a mix of contemporary and historical Elizabethan costumes.

I knew the corset I created would be part of Ophelia's costume. This 1598 Corset was pattern drafted and made by me. I used a white satin brocade fabric and ombre-dyed it red. The brocade pattern was then reinforced using a couching embroidery technique with red metallic thread.
